Our photoshoot bookings are now closed for this weekend...but never fear!
Next round of photoshoots is on Saturday 17 November.
What have you been visualising? Have you been making your house beautiful over Covid? Have the kids suddenly bloomed into amazing human beings? Have you started your dream business and need a fabulous headshot?
Or do you just want to commemorate this incredible year that's nearly over?
One of the hardest things about photoshoots is the posing. The photographer needs to elicit an interesting pose whilst keeping their subject (who has often never met you before) comfortable. The first paid shoot I did I had no idea what to do! Now I mostly just ask people to look at me and I give vague instructions like "just look to the sky", "how about a lovely twirl with your arms out". I love this shot, she is slightly guarded and shy, but you can also feel her intelligence and grace.
This image of my daughter Goldie received an Honourable Mention in the Australian Photography Awards in 2018. Below the winning pic is the unprocessed colour version.
Entering awards is a double-edged sword. You have a goal to aim for but you have to pay money to enter (about $30 an image) which becomes part of the prize pool. When winners are announced you look through the winning photos and mostly feel ashamed that you even dreamed your photo could measure up, or sometimes you see photos nowhere near as good as yours. It's quite stressful!
BUT every now and then you see your name and photo on the honour roll and I tell you what, it's like winning a bloody Oscar!
