This image of my daughter Goldie received an Honourable Mention in the Australian Photography Awards in 2018. Below the winning pic is the unprocessed colour version.
Entering awards is a double-edged sword. You have a goal to aim for but you have to pay money to enter (about $30 an image) which becomes part of the prize pool. When winners are announced you look through the winning photos and mostly feel ashamed that you even dreamed your photo could measure up, or sometimes you see photos nowhere near as good as yours. It's quite stressful!
BUT every now and then you see your name and photo on the honour roll and I tell you what, it's like winning a bloody Oscar!
